Frequently Asked Questions

The Old Town is the natural first base. The Burman Hotel, Hotel Telegraaf and Schlössle Hotel are a few minutes from Town Hall Square, with Toompea, St Catherine's Passage and the city walls all on foot. If you would rather have a lift, a pool and a taxi to the door, Palace Hotel Tallinn on Freedom Square and Radisson Collection Hotel, Tallinn near Viru keep the Old Town within a short walk.

Nunne Boutique Hotel, The Three Sisters Hotel and Radisson Collection Hotel, Tallinn all have family rooms, and The Three Sisters Hotel also has a lift. Schlössle Hotel has no lift and steep, narrow stairs, so it suits couples better than families with pushchairs. For a weekend for two, The Burman Hotel, Schlössle Hotel and Hotel Telegraaf offer intimate rooms with a sauna or spa, while The Three Sisters Hotel has rooms with balconies over the garden.

None of these hotels stands on the waterfront, as the Old Town lies a short walk inland from the harbour. Hotel Regent Tallinn and The Three Sisters Hotel, at the northern end of Pikk, are the closest, about a kilometre from the Port of Tallinn and the Kalarand seafront. From the upper floors of Swissotel Tallinn you look out over the harbour and the Gulf of Finland, and Radisson Collection Hotel, Tallinn has a rooftop terrace high above the city.

Movenpick Hotel Tallinn includes its spa in the stay, with an indoor pool, a Japanese pool, a cold plunge, a steam room and a sauna. Hotel Telegraaf pairs an Old Town address with an indoor pool, a hot tub and a steam bath, and Hotel Regent Tallinn has a small pool and sauna. Radisson Collection Hotel, Tallinn, Swissotel Tallinn and Palace Hotel Tallinn also have pools. At Schlössle Hotel the sauna is included; elsewhere, check what your rate covers.

Summer brings long light evenings, the white nights around midsummer, open terraces and easy walks along the seafront and out to Kadriorg, though the Old Town gets busy when cruise ships are in. The Christmas market fills Town Hall Square from late November into the new year. Winter days are short, dark and often snowy, which is when a hotel pool and sauna come into their own. Spring and early autumn are calmer.

Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport lies only a few kilometres from the centre, so a taxi to the Old Town is quick, and trams also run into the city. Ferries from Helsinki take around two hours and from Stockholm run overnight, arriving at the harbour within walking or short taxi distance of the Old Town. Several hotels can arrange an airport shuttle. Bear in mind that cars cannot reach every Old Town door.

Hotel Telegraaf is home to Restaurant Tchaikovsky, which serves French cuisine, and the restaurant at The Burman Hotel spans French, Japanese, European and Cantonese cooking. At Movenpick Hotel Tallinn, Restaurant ROOF serves seasonal dishes with a view and the Wine & Tapas Cellar sits in the historic wing. Swissotel Tallinn has Horisont on the top floor, Nunne Boutique Hotel has AME, and the rooftop bar at Radisson Collection Hotel, Tallinn stays open late.
