Pickalbatros Blu Spa Resort is an adults-only hotel for guests aged 16 and over, built for couples who want the whole holiday taken care of… It stands on the Red Sea shore along Hurghada's Village Road, with a private beach, four pools, a spa and four restaurants close together, all on an ultra all-inclusive basis. Guests keep returning to the same points: rooms and grounds kept spotless, staff who are quick to help, a beach with soft sand and warm, clear water, and a calm mood without children. The trade-offs are smaller ones. Smoking is allowed in the lobby bar, which bothers some non-smokers, and spa treatments come with a sales pitch and prices that are negotiated. On a longer stay a few guests wished the menus changed more often. Couples who want sun, sea and spa without planning anything will find a well-run base; anyone after a small, secluded hideaway should look elsewhere.

JAZ Makadi Star & Spa is an adults-only hotel in Makadi Bay, built for travellers who want a calm resort with a spa rather than a town base… The hotel's private beach is a short walk away inside the Makadi compound, there are two pools, a diving centre and the Mividaspa, and Souk Makadi is close enough to stroll to in the evening. Guests praise the staff above all, often by name, and come back again and again to the variety and quality of the food and the spotless, modern rooms. The weak points are practical. The wifi lags well behind the rest of the hotel, and Makadi Bay is far enough from Hurghada that trips into town or to the airport add up. Mosquitoes can be a nuisance in the evening. Couples and friends who plan to spend their days between the beach, the pools and the spa will find an attentive, peaceful base.

Casa Cook El Gouna is an adults-only hotel for travellers who want a slower pace and a strong sense of design… It sits by the Red Sea in El Gouna, with a private beach area, a kite centre and an outdoor pool, and the rooms range from junior suites around shared pools to villas with their own pool.
