Tripplo’s hotel summary
Tripplo’s analysis · Updated 21 October 2026 · How we review hotels
L'Hôtel is well-suited to history lovers and cultural enthusiasts, famous for its historic connection to Oscar Wilde. It is located in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, on Paris's Left Bank. Key highlights include its subterranean pool, hammam, and distinctive Baroque-style interiors. One drawback is that some rooms suffer from limited natural light, and the breakfast options are relatively simple.
Guests score it 9.1 out of 10 — the average across the 20 hotels we list in Paris is 9.2.
- As the final residence of Oscar Wilde, the property preserves a sense of literary history. Each guest room features bespoke heritage details and historic character.
- The vaulted stone basement houses a private wellness area with a heated pool and hammam. Guests can reserve this atmospheric space for exclusive use.
- Due to the historic architecture of the building, a few lower-floor rooms have smaller windows and limited daylight. Guests preferring bright spaces should request upper-floor accommodations.
- The daily continental breakfast focuses on high-quality pastries and coffee rather than a sprawling buffet. Those seeking hot cooked-to-order dishes may want to explore nearby neighborhood cafés.

Reviews from Google“🇫🇷🥂 L'Hôtel was one of the highlights of our time in Paris. The property is beautiful, intimate, and full of character. As one of the oldest hotels in Paris, it has a remarkable sense of history, yet it feels warm and welcoming rather than formal. The richly layered décor, dramatic fabrics, antique details, and sumptuous Baroque-inspired interiors create an atmosphere that is both elegant and unforgettable. After busy days exploring the city, returning to the quiet lounge for an apéro, is like a true retreat in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. 🎨 A special thank you to Antonia, whose warmth, professionalism, and thoughtful recommendations made our stay even more memorable. She suggested one of our favorite dinners of the trip and was incredibly helpful in arranging access to the hammam, which became a genuine highlight of our stay. Her hospitality exemplified everything that makes a great hotel special. The bar also deserves recognition. The cocktails were excellent, and the lounge quickly became one of our favorite places to relax in the evening. It is rare to find a hotel bar that feels both elegant and welcoming, but L'Hôtel has managed to create exactly that. Beautiful historic surroundings, exceptional service, wonderful cocktails, and a peaceful atmosphere that feels worlds away from the crowds of Paris. We would happily return, and plan to!”
“I am truly not sure how this hotel got its high rating. The restaurant yes is lovely but the rooms??? My room was super disappointing just look at the pictures. A little shoddy and sloppy and grungy. The bed was very comfortable. But the finishes and workmanship do not meet a level of 5 star hotel. This is a 3 to 4 star hotel. Staff were not overly friendly either. So overall keep moving.”
“I had an amazing meeting here with my international friends a week ago, the service was brilliant thanks to Margot and Florian. Great matcha latte and fresh croissants. I’ll come back again and will recommend this beautiful atmospheric place.”
“We are staying in a few days and the staff has been FABULOUS already! They have helped us with many little requests, and do so with such kindness and grace. Thank you to Benjamin, Florian, Luis and Gaelle for all of your help so far! We can't wait to come and write the rest of our review! A bientot!!”
“My journey to France begins with one of the best and most famous hotels in Paris, where famous people visit to feel the French love and warmth. I was welcomed with French warmth. I would like to thank each and every employee, especially the receptionist Salome.♥️”
