Tripplo’s hotel summary

Tripplo’s analysis · Updated 19 October 2026 · How we review hotels

Spa-minded couples who would rather wake up beside the sea than in the thick of Palma will find their fit at Hospes Maricel y Spa, Palma de Mallorca, a Member of Design Hotels. The seafront infinity pool sits next to old stone caves that now serve as massage rooms, and the Bodyna Spa adds a half-indoor, half-outdoor pool, hot tub, sauna and Turkish bath. Rooms are split between the 16th- and 17th-century mansion and a modern annex with exposed stone walls. Sailors can moor at the private jetty, and a golf course lies 500 metres away. The catch: central Palma is a 10-minute drive, so this is no base for strolling into the old town.

Set on the coast at Cas Català, a short drive from Palma, Hospes Maricel y Spa pairs a centuries-old mansion with a contemporary annex overlooking the sea. Its seafront pool, cave-set spa treatments and private jetty suit couples and travelers drawn to a quieter, design-focused retreat rather than a city-center base.

Guests score it 8.6 out of 10 — the average across the 54 hotels we list on Mallorca is 9.1.

“Exceptional service from Anna! Our stay at Hospes Maricel was amazing, but Anna truly made the experience stand out. She was incredibly welcoming, professional, attentive and genuinely kind. She always made sure everything was perfect and made us feel very well looked after throughout our stay. The hotel itself is beautiful, with an incredible location and atmosphere, but service like Anna’s is what makes a five-star hotel memorable. She is a real credit to the Hospes Maricel team and absolutely deserves recognition. Thank you Anna we will definitely be coming back!”

“We had the world famous "Best breakfast in the world" which was a 10-course meal for over 2 hours and it was a treat for the palate for sure! I especially want to mention the excellent service by head waiter Juan-Pedro + his team who really took care of the guests and made sure they had a great & unique experience! The menu changes actually every year so it's worth checking out yearly! Thanks again & until next time!”

“I was on the Breakfast experience. I don’t have words, all the plates were phenomenal! The place magical, and the service 100/10. Specially Juan Pedro, the man who lead the breakfast, he was extremely nice and always there for every need! I recommend this place with closed eyes”

“We visited the Bodyna Spa at Hospes Maricel & Spa and had mixed feelings overall. The massage itself was very nice, and the heated indoor/outdoor pool was excellent. The dry sauna and steam room were also enjoyable. However, we were extremely disappointed that the outdoor terrace and outdoor massage areas were closed. We were told those spaces are only available during the summer season, which would have been understandable had that been made clear beforehand. Unfortunately, the website heavily markets the oceanfront/open-air spa experience — even describing the sound of waves and sea breezes as part of the massage experience — which was a major reason we chose this spa in the first place. For roughly $1,200 for four people for only a few hours, I expected the experience and marketing descriptions to align much more closely with reality. The jacuzzi was also quite small, comfortably fitting only about four people, so it can feel crowded if the spa is busy. Overall, the service and treatments themselves were good, but the experience did not fully deliver on what was advertised, especially considering the premium price.”
