Tripplo’s hotel summary
Tripplo’s analysis · Updated 21 October 2026 · How we review hotels
Il San Pietro di Positano is ideal for active travellers seeking direct beach access and recreation. Key highlights include a regulation tennis court at the water's edge and sea-view terraces in every guest room. Guests can also enjoy fine dining prepared with estate-grown produce, and a private cliffside elevator that descends directly to the beach. However, a potential drawback is that the property is located outside the main pedestrian centre, and high demand means seasonal booking must be done well in advance.
Guests score it 9.9 out of 10 — the average across the 18 hotels we list on Amalfi Coast is 9.5.
The 30-second verdict
- A private elevator carved into the limestone cliff provides direct access to the beach club and turquoise waters. This lets guests reach the sea without the strenuous stair climbs typical of the Amalfi Coast.
- The fine-dining Zass restaurant utilizes ingredients harvested from the hotel's extensive terraced organic gardens. This commitment to local sourcing ensures that the Mediterranean menu reflects the seasonal flavors of the Salerno province.
- The property is situated approximately two kilometers from the center of Positano, making it less ideal for those who prefer walking to local shops. However, the hotel operates a complimentary 24-hour shuttle service to bridge the gap.
- Room availability is often limited during the peak summer months. Travelers seeking a specific suite category should consider planning their stay at least six to nine months in advance.

What guests say
Reviews from Google“⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Il San Pietro di Positano exceeded every expectation we had. The location is absolutely breathtaking, with spectacular views of the Amalfi Coast from every corner of the property. The hotel itself is beautiful, impeccably maintained, and offers a level of luxury that feels elegant rather than overdone. What truly makes this hotel exceptional is its people. Every member of the staff was warm, gracious, and genuinely committed to making our stay unforgettable. The service was among the best we’ve experienced anywhere in the world. The dining was outstanding, the private beach club is incredible, and every detail reflects a commitment to excellence. Despite being one of the world’s great luxury hotels, Il San Pietro still feels intimate and welcoming. We’ve been fortunate to stay at many outstanding hotels over the years, and Il San Pietro now sits at the very top of our list. It isn’t just a hotel—it’s an experience we’ll remember for a lifetime. Thank you to the entire team. We can’t wait to return!”
“The most breathtaking hotel in the world Having stayed at Il San Pietro for many years, it remains an absolute favorite of mine and quite simply one of the most incredible hotels I have ever visited. Nestled into the cliffs of Positano, the arrival sets the tone for the entire experience: arriving at the bottom by boat straight from Capri, then ascending right up through the heart of the cliff via their iconic elevator into paradise. Every single detail of this family-run hotel is executed to perfection. The family and their team do an extraordinary job, remaining consistently hospitable, genuinely kind, and wonderfully welcoming year after year. The amenities are second to none. They feature a massive organic garden where they grow all of their own vegetables, which are then used in the incredible hotel meals. There is a fantastic tennis court, and down at the bottom of the cliff sits the most breathtaking sun lounge area I have ever seen in my life—the perfect spot to watch the yachts go by or arrange to take one of the hotel's boats out on the water. If you are looking for luxury, charm, and unmatched Italian hospitality, Il San Pietro is truly peerless. An unforgettable experience from start to finish!”
“I think this must be the loveliest hotel in the world. The people who work here provide the warmest hospitality you can imagine. Many of the guests are from New York and have been coming back for years. We have met nice people both times we were lucky enough to stay. The view from the terrace and the rooms is unparalleled. It truly feels magical. And the beach club is incredible as well. I hesitate to submit this review because it is already difficult to find availability in the summer for il San pietro and I desperately want to come back!! But they deserve all of the praise I could give. Thank you, il San pietro for another wonderful stay!!”
“This was, without a doubt, the most incredible hotel experience I have ever had. Il San Pietro di Positano is a true immersion in luxury, comfort and Italian hospitality. Everything was exceptional, from the breathtaking views to the exquisite cuisine. Dining at Zass, the hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant overlooking the sea, was simply unforgettable. The view from our room was equally spectacular, and we were even surprised with a complimentary room upgrade. From the delicious welcome drink at reception to every little detail throughout our stay, everything was flawless. It was a truly unforgettable experience and, without a doubt, one of the most special hotels I have ever had the pleasure of staying at.”
“If you have the opportunity to stay at the Il San Pietro Positano it is an absolute must. From the moment you step onto the breathtaking property you are greeted by the kindest most genuine people and treated like royalty. The grounds are by far the most beautiful in Positano. The service and physical grounds are beyond 5 stars and the dining options are impeccable. The tennis court is something to behold. I consider ourselves to be well traveled and have been fortunate to stay at some of the world’s top hotels and Il San Pietro Positano is now one of our favorites. We cannot wait to return in the future. Thank you for sharing this slice of heaven.”
