Tripplo’s hotel summary
Tripplo’s analysis · Updated 22 October 2026 · How we review hotels
This waterfront property is perfect for visitors wanting a central harbour-side base with dedicated parking on Ortigia island. Private parking is a rare convenience in the old town, and it comes alongside panoramic rooftop dining overlooking the harbour and an exclusive spa. However, the traditional decor might feel slightly dated to modern tastes, and the availability of seasonal beach service is limited.
Guests score it 8.5 out of 10 — the average across the 13 hotels we list on Sicily is 9.0.
- Finding parking in historic Ortigia is notoriously difficult due to strict traffic zones. Having a dedicated private parking facility directly at the hotel provides seamless convenience for those exploring Sicily by car.
- The Terrazza sul Mare restaurant offers exceptional views of the harbor and the Mediterranean. Guests can enjoy authentic Sicilian cuisine paired with regional wines while watching the sunset from the top floor.
- The hotel's private beach service is highly dependent on seasonal availability and weather conditions. Guests planning a beach-heavy itinerary should check operations in advance, though the historic city center offers plenty of alternative attractions.
- The classic Sicilian design elements and furnishings may feel slightly formal or dated to travelers who prefer minimalist, modern interiors. However, the style complements the historic character of the building and its Ortigia setting.

Reviews from Google“WOW! Our stay at Grand Hotel Ortigia was absolutely exceptional and exceeded all of our expectations. The hotel is beautifully maintained, with elegant rooms, stunning views, and a perfect location right in the heart of Ortigia, making it easy to explore everything this beautiful island has to offer. One of the absolute highlights of our stay was breakfast on the spectacular rooftop terrace. Enjoying a delicious breakfast each morning while taking in the breathtaking panoramic views over the harbour and the sparkling Mediterranean Sea was an unforgettable experience. It was the perfect way to start each day and is something we'll always remember. The staff were outstanding from the moment we arrived. Every member of the team was warm, welcoming, professional, and genuinely committed to making our stay unforgettable. Their attention to detail and willingness to help with anything we needed made us feel truly valued as guests. The breakfast itself was excellent, with a fantastic selection of fresh, high-quality food, and the rooftop setting made every meal feel extra special. The hotel's atmosphere perfectly combines luxury, comfort, and authentic Sicilian hospitality. This was one of the highlights of our wedding anniversary trip, and we couldn't have chosen a better place to celebrate such a special occasion. We would highly recommend Grand Hotel Ortigia to anyone visiting Syracuse and Ortigia, and we can't wait to return. Five stars all the way!”
“A truly remarkable 5-star hotel. Everything was very good from start to finish. The rooms are impeccably clean, very well maintained, and extremely comfortable. The staff is incredibly kind, always smiling and ready to help with anything you need, which makes the whole experience even more enjoyable. The atmosphere is special, and the music in the hotel creates a unique vibe. At times it even feels like being inside a poetic line — “Your lips, two petals, All the diamonds.” Elegant, relaxing, and truly memorable. A place you will definitely want to return to.”
“Fantastic hotel. Breakfast wonderful with a huge choice. And the view from the terrace is amazing. Perfect location. Staff very helpful and friendly.”
“Went for a food and drinks at sunset on their rooftop terrace. Grand panorama view from their rooftop bar. Very good food pairing. A little pricey, but worth it”
“I picked this hotel because of its location and my mom’s limited walking. I splurged more than I could afford but it was definitely worth it. Everything about this hotel is great. Sitting on the amazing terrace enjoying their breakfast buffet and being able to order from a menu which is included is absolutely fantastic! Carmello and the staff are so attentive, kind and fun. The room was nice, comfy and the only thing missing was a balcony. But the view from the window made up for it. The cleaning crew was there morning and night to make sure we had everything we needed. This hotel had the best fragrance and it was always nice coming back after having been outside to their pleasant smell from their fragrance sticks. We ended up buying the same one as a memory from Sicily. I can’t say enough good things about this hotel but what makes it so memorable and special is the staff who are always smiling, efficient and happy to help. It was always great returning to the hotel and seeing Fortunado and Adrianno with their smiling faces. We loved every minute here and so will you👌🇮🇹”
