Tripplo’s hotel summary

Tripplo’s analysis · Updated 21 October 2026 · How we review hotels

Archaeology enthusiasts will find this historic eighteenth-century villa a historic base for exploring the ruins in Agrigento. The resort features direct views of the Temple of Concordia, a secluded wellness centre, and fine dining overlooking ancient ruins. Despite these features, its distance from the Agrigento city centre requires transport, and guests may find limited evening entertainment options on-site.

Set directly within Sicily's Valley of the Temples archaeological park, Villa Athena Resort offers a refined retreat inside a restored 18th-century villa. The property masterfully pairs ancient Greek views with understated luxury and regional gastronomy. It is an ideal sanctuary for history enthusiasts and discerning travelers seeking cultural immersion and quiet relaxation.

Guests score it 9.2 out of 10 — the average across the 13 hotels we list on Sicily is 9.0.

  • Situated just 200 meters from the Temple of Concordia, guests can observe the remarkably preserved fifth-century BC structure directly from the gardens and select guest rooms.
  • The property resides within a meticulously restored 18th-century residence, blending historic Sicilian heritage with clean, contemporary interior design.

“We stayed here for 1 night on our way through the town to see the temples. This hotel is perfect for this trip! Views of the temples are amazing. We secured a room with direct view which was well worth it. The restaurant on property is very nice, be sure to book a reservation if you want to eat on the terrace with the temples lit up at night! Rooms large, the beds were comfortable, and had nice liens. We had a coffee maker as well. En-suite had a large walk in shower and Dyson hair dryer. Only negative was there was some Sassy staff at check in and at the restaurant but overall the majority of the staff was very pleasant.”

“Our stay at Hotel Athena was truly remarkable. First of all, the hotel itself is absolutely stunning — the view of the temples is simply unique. The facilities exceeded our expectations in every way: the room and bathroom were excellent, beautifully designed and extremely comfortable. The dinner at the restaurant was a wonderful surprise — the cuisine was truly excellent, far exceeding what we had expected based on previous reviews we had read. It was genuinely one of the highlights of our stay. But above all, it was the team that made this experience truly special. The staff were kind, professional, and always going above and beyond to make us feel welcome. For all these reasons, we wholeheartedly recommend this hotel, and we will definitely be back one day. Congratulations on running such a special place!”

“Absolutely fabulous! Staff were wonderful. Attentive, friendly and proactive but discrete. Rooms are very comfortable and the food was delicious. The pool was just what you needed and a complimentary surprise gelato from the pool attendant demonstrates the thoughtfulness behind everything here. Definitely one of favourite places to stay in a long time. And of course the view of temple Concordia was simply spectacular. Stay. You won’t regret it.”

“What a location - in the archeological park of the Valley of the Temples! you look straight up at the Temple of Concordia. amazing view. The room was fine - this is not about the room, it’s about the view. The food was fine. i most enjoyed breakfast. we also had lunch and dinner there. so, we sat 6 hours in the restaurant in a 20 hour period. but it has the view! The staff are cold; they do their jobs, but unlike other 5 star resorts, they aren’t joyful about their duties. why should they be? They have no competition. if you want the view, you have to come here. so that leads to the premium you pay for the view. It’s a big premium and is worth it as long as you realize you are not the center of attention. The view is. Most 5 Star experiences are about the guest. This one is not.”

“If you’re staying in Agrigento, you must stay at this hotel. There’s a private entrance to the Valley of the Temples, and you can even buy tickets at the reception, which makes access incredibly easy. Don’t forget to check the sunset time, the view is absolutely breathtaking. All the staff were kind and generous, and thanks to them, we were able to easily get a taxi to the bus terminal. The room was clean and tidy, and they even had a Dyson hair dryer, which was such a nice surprise. One of the most amazing things was being able to see part of the temple while sitting in our room. Staying here felt magical. Having direct access to the Valley of the Temples made everything so special, especially at sunset. Watching the temple glow from our room is something we’ll never forget.”
