Tripplo’s hotel summary
Tripplo’s analysis · Updated 22 October 2026 · How we review hotels
Connoisseurs of classic Italian decor will find Grand Hotel Ambasciatori highly appealing. The property features classic Neapolitan design, antiques, and a landscaped garden with a quiet pool. Guests have direct access to a private beach from the cliffside location, which overlooks the Bay. Potential guests should note that high seasonal room rates apply, and the traditional decor may feel dated to some.
Guests score it 9.3 out of 10 — the average across the 18 hotels we list on Amalfi Coast is 9.5.
- Perched on Sorrento's cliffs, the hotel offers expansive vistas of the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius from its terraced vantage points.
- Guests can descend the cliffside via a private lift to reach a secluded wooden bathing platform directly on the water.
- Peak summer prices can be exceptionally high. Booking during the shoulder months of May or October offers the same views at a more accessible rate.
- The heavy wood furniture and antique styling may not appeal to travellers who prefer minimalist, contemporary interiors.

What guests say
Reviews from Google“An experience of true refinement. From the moment of arrival, with seamless valet service, to our departure, the level of care and attention was impeccable. The rooms were immaculate, elegantly appointed, serene, and maintained to the highest standard. The sea view from the room was truly beautiful, offering a sense of calm and quiet grandeur, and the surprise champagne awaiting us was a most gracious and memorable touch. The staff were unfailingly courteous, warm, and attentive, anticipating our needs and accommodating every request with ease. The restaurant offered cuisine of exceptional quality, beautifully prepared and worthy of the hotel’s distinguished standing. The beach and private pier area were equally impressive, providing a rare sense of privacy and tranquility by the sea. We will most definitely return!! :-)”
“Horrible. Food is below the level of a cheap restaurant in the town. Espresso....I thought that Starbucks makes bad coffee. As my 10 year old daugther asked me: daddy how come everyone outside the hotel is polite and smiling, in our hotel everyone seems to be mad for some reason. All that for 1400+ eur per night. Almost every meal I had outside of the hotel. Mostly in Bellevue hotel. Even the breakfast which I prepaid in Ambasciatori. The beach looks like from the 70's. I spoke to the hotel manager and in my opinion he is the biggest problem. We left a day early. Of course we paid for the last night as well. Don't bother giving tips to the maids. You will not get a better service.”
“We had an excellent one night stay at Grand Hotel Ambasciatori the day before we left for Capri! The hotel was gorgeous, the view was fabulous, food was amazing, and, most importantly, we LOVED the little beach club. It was so relaxing!”
“The is an absolutely spectacular hotel! From the service, to the rooms, to the views and the hotel grounds - nothing was short of amazing. My husband and I visited with our toddler in May and stayed in a deluxe junior suite room. The views from this room were beyond beautiful- I would highly recommend a junior suite room when visiting this hotel. Medelina ensured that our room was spotless each day and was always very friendly. The breakfast service was organized and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Each morning while we were dining, Franco made sure that our toddler had whatever he needed to feel comfortable. Each day when entering and exiting the hotel, Max at the front desk made sure that we had whatever we needed to feel comfortable for the day - he knew us by name before we departed! While Sorrento has so much to offer, it was so nice to stay in hotel grounds and enjoy the amenities and views that the hotel has to offer. The private beach club was so lovely and adds a very unique experience to your stay at this hotel. Having aperitivo overlooking the sea and Mt. Vesuvius is truly unmatched. Overall, I would highly recommend staying here when visiting Sorrento!”
“One of the best hotels I've stayed at. The staff was friendly & accommodating. The room was beautiful with picturesque views. I highly recommend.”
