The Danai is a family-run luxury hideaway perched on the bluffs above the Aegean and a member of The Leading Hotels of the World.
Located in Sithonia, Halkidiki, the resort sits on a wide sandy beach within thriving Mediterranean gardens: a gate opens onto 40,000 m² of pine-shaded, blooming grounds and a 315-metre private beach equipped with private beach cabanas.
Natural light floods the 56 suites and villas, each individually designed by the founder and regularly refurbished during the winter closure. Facilities include private pools, a main pool and an indoor pool in the spa.
Guests can choose between three open-air restaurants: "The Squirrel" for gourmet cuisine, "Andromeda" for fine dining and "Anithos" for modern Greek cooking, all paired with wines from the hotel's cellar. "The Noble House" combines the 130-metre-long wine cellar, which holds an extensive collection of labels, with the hotel's own vineyard.
Beyond the serviced beach bar, the hotel's private yachts "The Bird" and "The Blue Bird" take guests to hidden bays, to UNESCO World Heritage-listed Mount Athos or to nearby islands.
The Danai is a romantic hideaway but also child-friendly, with an on-site kids' club, a playground and spacious family suites. Pets up to 10 kilos are welcome for an extra charge. A weekly changing programme includes jazz nights, culinary events and other occasions around the resort.
Three generations of the owning family run the hotel and look after guests with personal service.
Tripplo’s hotel summary
Tripplo’s analysis · Updated 21 October 2026 · How we review hotels
The Danai is excellent for families and couples seeking intimate, family-run hospitality in a dramatic coastal setting. Set on Halkidiki's Sithonia peninsula, the hotel features a cliffside location overlooking the Aegean Sea, multi-tiered Mediterranean gardens, and a private sandy beach with serviced cabanas. On the downside, the elevated cliffside position requires steep walking to get around, and guests should expect a high premium on dining and services.
Guests score it 9.7 out of 10 — the average across the 16 hotels we list on Halkidiki is 9.2.
- Perched on the bluffs of Sithonia, the resort offers panoramic views of the Aegean Sea from almost every vantage point, combining natural elevation with immediate coastal access.
- The property is set within extensive pine-shaded gardens that isolate the suites from one another, creating a quiet, estate-like environment rich in local flora.
- The hillside layout means navigating stairs and inclines to reach the beach, which may prove challenging for guests with limited mobility, though golf carts are available.
- While the three restaurants and extensive wine cellar offer exceptional quality, the on-site pricing is considerably higher than local tavernas in nearby Nikiti.
