Tripplo’s hotel summary
Tripplo’s analysis · Updated 22 October 2026 · How we review hotels
Mandarin Oriental, Milan is highly suited for gastronomy enthusiasts wanting a sophisticated wellness retreat close to the luxury shopping district. Key features include fine dining at Seta, extensive subterranean wellness facilities, and quiet courtyard dining. On the downside, guests should note that valet parking fees are high, and certain rooms receive limited natural light. However, the proximity to the Quadrilatero della Moda makes it exceptionally convenient.
Guests score it 9.4 out of 10 — the average across the 13 hotels we list in Milan is 9.1.
- The on-site restaurant Seta offers refined Italian gastronomy in a striking courtyard setting, making it a destination for culinary enthusiasts.
- Situated in the Brera district, the hotel is just steps from the high-end boutiques of Via Monte Napoleone, offering easy access to Milan's premier shopping.
- While private parking is available on-site, the daily valet fees are substantial, though standard for luxury properties in central Milan.
- Due to the historic layout of the interconnected palazzi, some lower-level rooms facing inner courtyards can feel somewhat dim during winter months.

What guests say
Reviews from Google“We had a pleasant stay overall, although compared with other Mandarin Oriental properties we have visited, the experience felt somewhat ordinary. The service was perfectly fine, but lacked the exceptional warmth and attention to detail that I usually associate with Mandarin Oriental. The room was comfortable and well maintained, though rather standard, and the food was good without being particularly memorable. We had informed the hotel in advance that we would be travelling with our dog, but the only amenity prepared for him was a simple dog cushion. Considering the level of the property and our experiences at other luxury hotels, we had expected a little more attention to our four-legged guest. What we appreciated most was the location. It is extremely convenient for exploring Milan while still feeling surprisingly peaceful and quiet once inside the hotel. Overall, a very comfortable and well-located luxury hotel, but for us, it didn’t quite deliver the distinctive level of service and thoughtful attention to detail that usually makes a Mandarin Oriental stay feel special.”
“I travel extensively and stay almost exclusively at ultra luxury properties around the world, so my expectations are extremely high when it comes to service, communication, and attention to detail. The Mandarin Oriental Milan absolutely delivered. From the moment we arrived, the service felt personal, thoughtful, and genuine rather than scripted or corporate. Emma Sticca, the Director of Guest Experience, was exceptional throughout the stay. Every recommendation she gave us was spot on, from restaurants to local suggestions, and you could tell the guidance came from actual experience rather than a generic concierge list. One restaurant recommendation in particular, Bacaro, ended up being one of the best meals we had during the trip. What stood out most was the consistency. The team was proactive, responsive, warm, and always willing to help without making things feel transactional or forced. Even small things were handled with care and urgency. Luxury hotels are easy to build physically. Creating a team and culture that consistently delivers high level hospitality is much harder. The Mandarin Oriental Milan and Emma truly understand that difference. One of the best hotel experiences we have had in Europe and absolutely a property we will return to.”
“Wonderful Stay! We enjoyed every moment there. Rooms were spacious and tastefully designed while the restaurant Mandarin Garden exceeded our expectations (The focaccia was phenomenal !). Most importantly the whole team went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Would like to highlight Maria Vitoria, who checked us in, as well as Andrea at the restaurant and Giacomo at concierge. They really helped elevate our experience with their attentive service and local expertise. We will definitely be back!! ♡”
“I stayed in the Mandarin Oriental in March and was forced to vacate the room by the hotel staff in the middle of the night to fix plumbing issues. This could have been done in the morning after check out and there was no need to disrupt guests while they were sleeping. Furthermore, there was absolutely zero compensation, despite the disruption to important itineraries the following day. They moved me and my brother to a room that only had one bed, when their first room had two separate beds! My brother was forced to sleep on the sofa in the end. What kind of service is this? Terrible service in a hotel that seems to be falling apart. I wouldn't expect this from a 1 star hotel, let alone a supposed 5 star hotel. My partner helped write a review on my behalf and they blocked the review, so I'm writing this now on my account. This hotel is clearly trying to fabricate a higher rating than it deserves.”
“We loved how every service employee went 1 step ahead to ensure our wellbeing and that our needs were met. We also really liked the privacy offered by the hotel infrastructure.”
