El Fuerte is a long-established hotel on the Costa del Sol that has been upgraded to five stars. It stands on the beachfront in the centre of Marbella, right on the seafront promenade, with wide views over the sea, and the old town is a short walk away.
The interiors, by the studio of Chilean designer Jaime Beriestain, give the hotel a warm Mediterranean character with a classic, timeless look. Food and service are a central part of a stay, with attention paid to the small details.
The hotel has been refurbished, combining its mid-20th-century heritage with modern comforts. Facilities include three outdoor pools and a spa with a hydrotherapy circuit, and secure parking is available on site for a fee.
Tripplo’s hotel summary
Tripplo’s analysis · Updated 22 October 2026 · How we review hotels
El Fuerte Marbella is best for travellers seeking beachfront luxury in a highly central location. It successfully pairs updated historic charm with three outdoor swimming pools and a full-service spa. Guests should note that on-site parking requires an extra fee, and there is high demand during the peak season.
Guests score it 9.3 out of 10 — the average across the 13 hotels we list in Marbella is 9.1.
The 30-second verdict
- The hotel sits directly on Marbella's lively seafront promenade, offering guests immediate beach access alongside the convenience of being just steps away from the historic old town's shops and dining.
- Established in the mid-20th century, the property has been thoughtfully redesigned to blend its rich heritage with contemporary five-star amenities, understated decor, and high-end finishes.
- Due to its popular central location and beachfront access, the communal areas and pool decks can feel crowded during the height of the summer season.
- While secure parking is available directly on the property, it comes with an additional daily charge, which is common for central Marbella but can add up.

Reviews from Google“This was our first time staying at Hotel El Fuerte, a sister hotel to the Amàre, just a short walk away. We chose to change location to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and we truly believe we made the perfect decision. We stayed for five nights with breakfast included and the experience exceeded our expectations in every way. Breakfast was outstanding the quality, variety and presentation of the food easily deserve a 10 out of 10. The indoor and outdoor seating areas are beautiful, relaxed and immaculately maintained, making each morning a pleasure. What truly sets Hotel El Fuerte apart is the staff. From morning through to night, the personal attention we received was professional, genuine and incredibly warm. Every interaction felt sincere and welcoming and it made a real difference to our stay. The hotel grounds offer plenty of choice for relaxation, whether you prefer sun or shade, by the pool or near the beach. The atmosphere throughout is calm, elegant and thoughtfully designed. We also appreciated the personal touches in the evening, such as chocolates or sweets left in the room, small details that made the experience feel extra special. We would like to sincerely thank all of the staff for helping to make our 25th wedding anniversary such a memorable and meaningful holiday. We will most certainly return in the future and would consider the half‑board option next time. Paul & Angela Holohan Room 404 Dublin Ireland”
“Gorgeous hotel that lived up to all expectations. Exceptional staff with great attention to detail. Clean, quiet, and modern rooms. Amazing gym with stunning views. Beautiful pool area and just a few steps to the beach and everything to experience on the boardwalk. And good food on top of all that. Highly recommend this lovely hotel and will return!”
“I’ve been fortunate to travel extensively and stay in many beautiful hotels, and I can confidently say this is one of the best I’ve ever experienced. From the moment you arrive, the service is exceptional. The team is genuinely warm, attentive, and welcoming, which sets the tone for the entire stay. The location is unbeatable, with everything conveniently within walking distance. The pool and beach areas are stunning and incredibly relaxing, especially the sunbeds by the water. It’s the perfect place to unwind and switch off. Breakfast is excellent, with a wide variety of options and beautiful views, and the decor throughout the hotel is elegant and thoughtfully designed. Lounge access was a great addition, and having snacks and drinks available during the day made the experience even more enjoyable. The room was quiet, comfortable, and well designed, with a beautiful bathroom. One of the highlights was falling asleep to the sound of the waves. At one point, one of us even chose to sleep on the balcony just to fully enjoy it. This is a place where you can truly disconnect and relax. I’m already looking forward to coming back. Thank you for such an incredible stay. Highly recommended. Don’t hesitate to book.”
“We had a wonderful time at El Fuerte. It was our first holiday in a while and I even used the occasion to propose! The hotel was situated at an ideal location - easy to access, well maintained and plenty of amenities nearby. We were in Marbella for a long weekend and had a jam-packed agenda, but enjoyed our time at the hotel and had some particular highlights / call-outs: 1. Andrea from Guest Services + the entire staff team - Andrea in particular was FANTASTIC - no question was too much and she always had a wonderful smile each day. She even very kindly had a bottle of cava sent to our room to celebrate our proposal. Which we enjoyed on the balcony overlooking the sea! Rosa + Valentina - kitchen superstars - were full of joy each morning + kept us topped up with champagne! They also very kindly had a DELICIOUS chocolate mousse brought to us to celebrate our engagement. We were so grateful for their kindness and wonderful hospitality. Thank you, El Fuerte, for a memorable trip and a wonderful experience. We will come back again!”
“Absolutely wonderful property. We enjoyed a relaxing week in a seafront room. The “selected” option worked very well for us and offers a quiet area for breakfast with excellent service. Other perks with this option include a lounge (little sandwiches and desserts, snacks, and even drinks and fresh juices), and entry to the very relaxing therapy pool with jets and cascading spouts. Our room had a unique design, with a shower and toilet cubicle to one side of the entry, and double sinks and a soaking tub on the other side. Beyond was a small bedroom and beautiful balcony. There are many room categories available, including suites with lounge areas, or those with a jetted tub on the balcony. Keep in mind the resort has a rather small footprint, and is family friendly, so there could be some noise from the pool below in seafront room category. The tradeoff is delightful views. We loved the location of the hotel, with direct access to a promenade lined with restaurants. It’s also a few minutes walk to the charming old town. We would not hesitate to recommend this world class hotel. Heartfelt thanks to the outstanding staff, particularly our breakfast hosts and servers. We hope to see your smiling faces again!”
